Guess how the police caught an accused who went absconding to Agra after robbing a man here. They asked his wife to call him up to inform him that she was going to deliver his baby. What's more, when the accused arrived in the evening train, he was taken by the police to the hospital so that he could take a look at his newly born child.

The accused, Nayan alias Jayesh Thakkar had gone absconding after robbing a Mumbai-based businessman in the Amraiwadi area.

The incident happened when the victim took a rickshaw from the CTM crossroads. Midway, Thakkar along with his associate Vipul Suthar got into the rickshaw after which they robbed the victim near the Bhaipura area, in collusion with the driver. The complainant then went to the Amraiwadi police saying that he was robbed of a laptop and other valuables.

Based on the identification given by the complainant, the police went looking for three of the accused taking statements of rickshaw drivers in the area. Police inspector of Amraiwadi police station, DB Raulji told DNA that he then got a tip-off that the stolen laptop had been sold to someone after which he started investigating about the seller.

He said, "We managed to arrest Suthar after arresting the rickshaw driver, who confessed to the offence. We then started looking for Thakker who had fled to Agra." The rickshaw driver is not from Ahmedabad but lives on the outskirts of the city. The police tracked him down after they got details of the rickshaw's number.

Raulji said that a call was then made to Thakker who came rushing to Ahmedabad unaware that the police was waiting for him. He was then taken to the hospital where his wife had delivered the baby. Officials said that investigations were on to find out as to what other offences the accused were involved in.
