Land for development of railways in Kerala would be acquired on a fast-track basis, chief minister VS Achuthanandan said here today.
The State Roads and Bridges Corporation had been assigned to look after the proposed 17 railway overbridges (ROBs), which would be completed in a limited time frame, he said inaugurating the Kadukkamknnu railway overbridge near here.
Achuthanandan said the ROBs should be completed in a time-bound manner. The state Roads and Bridges Development Corporation would be given the charge of monitoring the 17 overbridges now being under construction in the state.
He said the government was of the view that the proposed coach factory in in Palakkad should be under the public sector without private participation.
Union Minister of state for Railways E Ahamed, who presided, said 15 ROBs would be operational by 2001 in Kerala.
