Residents of Kutch are distressed because a bottle of water in Kutch costs Rs12 while their land, which is being sold in the name of development, goes for a song. These residents came together, along with other distressed people hailing from villages across the state, in Ahmedabad on Saturday to discuss their problems on a common platform. Citizens Resource and Actions Initiatives (CRANTI) on Saturday handed a platform to hundreds of residents from these villages to share their problems and also come up with a solution, at the Mehndi Nawaz Jung Hall, Ashram Road.

While Kutch was one case of displacement and distress over development, the Naroda water park worth Rs1000 crore was another topic of discussion. Similarly, other such development projects were analysed and discussed at this platform.

According to activist and danseuse, Mallika Sarabhai, "They are poor people from various villages of Gujarat and they are now saying 'enough is enough'. They are distressed and also displaced to a great extent owing to developments in their areas and to top it all, corruption is playing a big role of this development paradigm." Sarabhai continued, "Unlike in the past, when various NGO representatives came forward with people's problems, this time people have taken the initiative on their own. CRANTI had distributed over 2000 pamphlets talking about this platform for people wherein they can start a people's movement. We did not promise them food and gifts and chai-pani unlike other seminars and talks. We promised them a platform to share their problems, voice their woes and seek answers from the government."

CRANTI provided this platform to deprived people like poor farmers, widows, differently abled people, students who are victimised by governmental policies as well as people who have been relocated from their homes in the name of development.
