Children from various districts in the state will present cultural programmes.
Come December and Gujarat's children will have more reasons to cheer about than Santa Claus only. Preparation for the annual Kankaria Carnival has begun and it promises to be a kid's gala time at Kankaria. If all goes according to plan, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials hope to kick off the seven-day fête from December 25 onwards.
"This time we are planning the Kankaria carnival keeping children in mind," said municipal commissioner IP Gautam. The AMC officials plan to invite kids from across the state to showcase their talent. Last year some professional groups apart from some of the college students and different communities residing in Ahmedabad were invited to present cultural items.
"This year's main attraction will be the children, up to the age of 18, who will present cultural items like singing, playing various musical instruments, garba, traditional dances, among many other items. The idea is to provide a platform to these children to enable them to showcase their hidden talent," a senior AMC official stated.
There's even more good news. Entry to the Kankaria lake premise will be free as the AMC wants to make the carnival a big success! The civic body's ambitious move to present the kids with a stage to nurture their hidden talents, is also seen as a move to market the Kankaria Lakefront project among the children from across the state for them to come and see the project.
"The word-of-mouth publicity for the Kankaria project is going to help in publicizing the project without having to spend any money even outside Ahmedabad," said an official, adding that spellbound by the beauty of the Ahmedabad Kankaria lakefront, the children who will leave the lake premises after the carnival would want to come back every time they visit the city.
Last year, the AMC spent huge sums to mark the opening ceremony of the Kankaria Lakefront Development Project in a week-long carnival. Looking at the last year's success, the civic body decided to make the week-long fête, an annual function.
