The moderate Hurriyat Conference today sought United Nation's (UN) intervention in resolving the Kashmir issue as authorities thwarted its attempt to take out a march to the office of the world body in Srinagar to submit a memorandum.

The memorandum, later circulated to the media, said peace in South Asia is linked to the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

"It is high time the United Nations adopts a pro-active course for arriving at a permanent and durable solution of the issue," amalgam chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said.

In a memorandum addressed to UN secretary-general Ban Ki Moon, he said "no peace can be guaranteed in South Asia unless Kashmir issue is amicably settled."

The Hurriyat had planned to submit the memorandum to local UN office here but the government thwarted its attempt placing Mirwaiz under house arrest and putting restrictions on movement of the people.
