Kandhamal riots case: Nun identifies four persons in court

A nun who was allegedly raped during the Kandhamal riots in 2008 today identified four from among ten arrested persons produced before a sessions court in Cuttack.

The nun who had on past five occasions defied summons and had even unsuccessfully approached the high court pleading deferment of proceedings, appeared in the court along with her counsel.

Chhotray Marandi, a local doctor who had examined the nun after the alleged rape on August 25, 2008, also deposed before the court.

He was earlier asked by the court to produce certain documents pertaining to the examination and treatment of the victim.

The informant in the case, Chandrapati Pradhani and a key witness also recorded their statements.

Both the witnesses were cross examined by the defence counsels.

The court has been holding trial in the case since August this year. It has examined 25 witnesses in the case.
