Mohammed Aslam alias Aslam Kashmiri, the alleged mastermind of the Kalupur railway station blasts in February 2006, is reportedly missing. This was brought to the notice of the court by Aslam's father, Latif, who filed an application on Wednesday through his lawyer, Ilyas Pathan.

"Kashmiri was not brought to court on the last three production dates," said Pathan. "When we asked the authorities, we were told that he is lodged in Tihar jail in Delhi. But when his father enquired in Delhi, he was told that he is not there but is lodged in Ahmedabad central jail." Ahmedabad central jail is none other than Sabarmati central jail, Ahmedabad.

The lawyer further said that when they approached the Sabarmati jail authorities, they were told that he was not there. Latif, Kashmiri's father, now fears that his son may have been eliminated by the police in an encounter, Pathan added.

In view of the seriousness of the allegations made by Latif, the court has issued notices to the authorities of Tihar jail, the Sabarmati jail and the Gujarat ATS. The case will again be taken up for hearing on September 15.
The jail authorities and ATS officials have been asked to inform the court about exactly where Kashmiri was lodged and his whereabouts.

More than 25 people were injured in the blast that occurred on platform number 2 and 3 of Kalupur railway station at around 1.45 am on February 19, 2006.

Following investigation, the Gujarat ATS had arrested two Lashkar operatives - Mohammed Amir Shakil Ahmed Shaikh and Saiyed Aqif Jafruddin — both residents of Aurangabad.
