Jakhau fishermen return to shore

Kutch fishermen at Jakhau, one of the biggest fishing ports in the country, face no danger from cyclonic storm, as the 103 boats that had gone fishing have been called back.

The met department has predicted that cyclonic storm Phet is moving towards the Gujarat coast, but Kutch fishermen at Jakhau, one of the biggest fishing ports in the country, face no danger as the 103 boats that had gone fishing have been called back.
An official of Jakhau-based coast guard station confirmed that the fishermen have returned.

The official said though there is no immediate threat of the cyclone, precautionary measures have been taken.

Capt SK Sibal, head of the marine department of Kandla Port, said that they have taken all safety measures and floated weather signal number two.

District collector and magistrate M Therasan held special meeting with the key district officials to initiate precautionary measures including special watch on 18 fishing centres, provision for food for three days and alternative arrangement for shelter, posting of officials at the villages and the restoration of power supply.
