With a survey by the Centre detecting irregularities in the implementation of UPA's flagship NREGA scheme in Bihar, Congress today sought a CBI probe into such "blatant misuse of central funds" in the NDA-ruled state.

AICC in charge for Bihar Jagdish Tytler said that Congressmen in the state will highlight such misuse of funds and take people of the state into confidence over the issue.

"Nothing less than a CBI inquiry will do," he told reporters.

The survey report prepared by the monitoring division of Ministry of Rural Development has revealed several irregularities in implementing the programme in the Lakhisarai district.

It said that there were cases where funds have been exhausted without any work on the ground apart from duplication of work and poor financial discipline.

Noting that state and district level monitoring have had no impact, the survey said that there has hardly been any successful prosecution of defaulters giving a wrong message to the local populace.

Tytler said such anomalies have come to light in several districts and that his party was keeping a close watch on the utilisation of the central funds.

Tytler, who is said to be not on good terms with state PCC Chief Anil Sharma, also dismissed talks of his differences with the latter.

When pointed out that Sharma's supporters are alleging that the AICC in-charge is encroaching upon PCC work through a Coordination Committee, Tytler said such committees exist in other states as well.

"Even Sharma is a member of the committee and there is no encroachment of PCC works," he said.
