Appreciating the stand taken by the Gujarat High Court in the Ishrat Jehan fake encounter, advocate Mukul Sinha has called for further probe in the matter as it involves top cops and politicians.

"Apart from those who have carried out the fake encounter, it is now important to find out who ordered them to carry it out. It is a larger issue, as it involves many top policemen as well as politicians," said Sinha, lawyer of Javed Gopinath Pillai, who was one of the victims of the fake encounter.

According to Sinha, the suggestion to include an independent member in SIT has made all the difference. "Apart from one member each from the state and the centre, the high court accepted our suggestion to add an independent member and that is the main reason why the probe has headed in the right way," he said and added that the current SIT must continue its work and file a new FIR and chargesheet against the culprits. "We have protested the move to hand over the further probe to CBI, as we are not satisfied with the way the other two fake encounter probes are being handled by the agency," said Sinha.

Alleging that there's a bigger conspiracy behind the Ishrat encounter, Sinha said that the role of the state Intelligence Bureau should come under the scanner. "It's the IB which gave the tip-off about the possible terror attack on top political leaders of state. Thus, based on their report, the crime branch carried out the encounter," claimed Sinha, and added that the encounters of
Sadik Jamal and Sohrabuddin were also a part of a larger conspiracy. "It's fake Rajniti, not just fake encounters. Many politicians and agencies are behind such encounters," he alleged.

Putting a question mark on the chief minister and former home minister of Gujarat, Sinha said that it was their responsibility to probe the matter because these people were killed on the suspicion of a terror threat to them.

"CM and home minister are elected leaders, so when people are killed for their security, they must initiate the probe. But they didn't, which made us believe that many big names are behind the encounter," said Sinha.
