Under pressure from his critics within the party to give up his Rajya Sabha seat, Amar Singh today asked Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav to first "return the kidneys" he had sacrificed in the service of the party.

Addressing a public meeting in Madgava village, about 70km from the district headquarters here, Amar Singh said he had served the Samajwadi Party for 14 long years and even sacrificed his kidneys for it.

"The party's treatment towards me had not been right...to those who have been demanding my resignation from the Rajya Sabha I have to say that if netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) returns my kidneys I would resign", an emotional Amar Singh said.

Singh, who lashed out at party leaders who have been given new responsibilities after his resignation from key posts in the organisation as well as his detractors, however, spared Mulayam Singh from his attacks.

Film actor and Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan, who was also present, appealed to the people to help make women stronger.

Addressing the meeting, president of SP's Maharashtra unit Abu Azmi said Amar Singh, who played a major role in helping Mulayam Singh become the chief minister and brought Muslims closer to the party was not treated well by the party.
