I quit Samajwadi Party due to health reasons: Amar Singh

Sulking Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh today said he quit from all organisational posts, owing to poor health, and there was no political motive for the same.

"I quit on health grounds. I cannot work for 20-20 hours at a stretch now," Singh, who landed here from Dubai in the afternoon, told reporters at the airport.

The SP leader is in Mumbai to campaign for party colleague Abu Azmi's son Farhan, who is contesting Bhiwandi Assembly by-election.

"I came to campaign for Farhan, who is like a son to me," Singh said. "I will campaign and immediately go abroad without going to Delhi," he said. Stating that he was an ordinary worker of the party, Singh said, "Though 98% party workers like me, 2% are not satisfied with me...I respect their feelings...I have expectations from the younger generation. The youth will have to come forward. Farhan is a well-educated young man."

"I have come to campaign for Farhan despite my illness," the SP leader said, before leaving for Delhi. He did not take queries from the media.

On the criticism against him by some SP leaders, Singh said, "I take this as a blessing. I won't say anything about it."

On arrival at the airport, Singh was received by friend and superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
