Honour killing: Tamil Nadu CPI(M) unit wants govt to enact law

Expressing concern over a recent case of  suspected "honour-killing" in Tamil Nadu, the state unit of the CPI(M) today sought a separate legislation to deal with such incidents.

The two-day state committee meeting of the party which concluded on Thursday demanded that Tamil Nadu  government enact a legislation, especially in the wake of such an incident at Sivaganga where the man was allegedly murdered, party’s state unit secretary G Ramakrishnan said.

The trend, which was prevalent in some North Indian states, has now been reported in the state also, he said adding the state government should act swiftly and bring the accused to book.

"Honour killings and torture should be viewed as separate cases of crime and the state government should immediately enact a separate law to tackle this," he said in a statement in Chennai.
