Hindi-speaking people need not fear in Maharashtra: Ashok Chavan

Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan today assured protection for Hindi-speaking people and free movement in his state, dispelling fear of attacks on them.

"Hindi is our national language. We have taken all measures to protect all the citizens in Maharashtra. There had been no problem during the recently concluded banking examination," Chavan said at a news conference.

"The government has taken actions against such elements (who indulged in anti-Bihari campaign)," he said while replying to a query on the past incidents on the Hindi speaking people.

To a query on the formation of smaller states, Chavan said he was in favour of a united and developed Maharashtra.

Asked on the security situation post 26/11 terror attack, Chavan said that the sea coast was now secure and several security measures have been taken since then.

Chavan said his government would help in industrial development if the the Congress-led coalition came to power in Jharkhand.

"Jharkhand has tremendous prospects for development. But it could not happen. If the Congress comes to power here we will assist in every way in its industrial development," he said.
