Come September and Kankaria Lake will house two more crowd pulling amenities within its premises — the first ever tethered helium balloon in India and a second mini train.

"The tethered balloon has already arrived in Mumbai and it will take some days before it is brought to Ahmedabad. Once we receive it, we will undertake a pilot ride to check safety measures and other details to ensure a smooth launch of the tethered helium balloon," said a senior AMC official.
The helium balloon will be set up between the football ground gate and Kankaria Lake.
AMC officials said they will start the helium balloon operation by September first week that is if the notification for the upcoming municipal elections does not play spoilsport.
The officials said they are yet to decide the ticket fare for the amenity but it could be around Rs50 per person. The civic body will provide around 3,000 square metre of land to the company for this project, where it can also develop restaurants and other facilities as well. The project will be set up at a cost of Rs10 crore.
Tethered helium balloon also known as hot air balloons will be able to soar as high as 450 metres in the air and will have a capacity to carry around 30 passengers at one go. The company will bear the cost of accident insurance for passengers.
The second mini train - named Swarnim Gujarat Express might also chug in at Kankaria by end of September, if everything goes well.
"Once we receive the consignment of the train from UK, it will just take a couple of days to assemble it. We may be able to start the mini train by September end," said the official.
