At a time when majority of the people want to replicate the American model of development, a Gujarati inventor, entrepreneur and policy maker Sam Pitroda on Friday asked Gujarat to come up with an alternative model to solve the world’s problem.

Pitroda was addressing hundreds of Gujaratis who have come to Ahmedabad to participate in the 4th Vishwa Gujarati Parishad, which kicked off on Friday.

Every one has talked a lot about Gujarat and the state has made substantial progress. It can be an example for other states to follow, said Pitroda. But we still have lot of work to do. I urge Krishnakant Vakharia to use this platform to solve the problems that the world faces.

I request you to form a committee of ten intelligent people who can think about an alternative model of development not only for India but for the world, said Pitroda. He said he is convinced that Gujarat has the potential to come up with such a plan. The American model of development is not sustainable though we are replicating it.

The model is not sustainable or sensible. In Gujarat we have family values, trust, simplicity which Gandhi adored and sense of sacrifice — which is somehow forgotten, he said. Pitroda said there is something about Gujarat that makes him confident that the state will be able to find a new model for the world. Pitroda said a committee of thinkers from Gujarat should spend some time studying the problems at home and then come up with new model.

Let Gujarat guide the destiny of the world, he said.
