Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has decided to open a club, under the moniker Universal Development of Integrated Skills through Higher Education (Udisha), in its attempts to strengthen bond between industry and colleges.

Principals of around 490 degree and diploma courses have been informed to open such clubs before February 15 and submit details to the university.

According to vice-chancellor Dr Akshai Aggarwal, these clubs will help the colleges to understand more about the requirements of the industry. "It is also aimed at bringing different departments of a college under a common roof," said Dr Aggarwal.

Each club will have one executive committee, consisting of a lecturer and four students from each department.

Apart from interacting with the industry, these clubs will decide about the final year projects of the students according to the need of the industry. These clubs will also take a final call on students' industrial visits and their summer internships.

"We want our students to solve problems of the industry through Udisha. That will bring more jobs eventually for our students in long run," added Dr Aggarwal, who will personally monitor the progress of the club by way of appointment of a secretary at each club.

According to the vice-chancellor, these clubs will arrange mock interviews enabling students to appear for final interviews. For MBA colleges, the Udisha club needs to encourage students to take original case studies.

"We have also asked MBA colleges to introduce case studies related to strategies for global business," said Dr Aggarwal, adding that the club will be responsible for organising sports and cultural activities and prepare students for national and inter-university sports competitions too.
