A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court, on Friday, stayed investigation against social activist Teesta Setalvad and her lawyer, MM Tirmizi, in connection with allegations that they had filed doctored affidavits for the victims of Naroda Gam riots.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Setalvad challenging the high court's verdict that had given the green signal for a probe against her and Tirmizi in connection with the doctored affidavits allegations. The court had ordered that a complaint be lodged and investigation be initiated against them over the allegations made by Setalvad's former employee, Rais Khan.

Khan had alleged that Setalvad had prepared doctored affidavits on behalf of the riot victims and had submitted them before different courts and legal forums to seek justice for the victims. The designated court hearing the Naroda Gam riots case had ordered an investigation into Rais Khan's allegations and the high court had later confirmed the designated court's order.
