With an aim to boost medical tourism in the state, the Gujarat government has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) for setting up Medicities, and other healthcare related projects in the state, a top state government functionary, said on Monday.

"We have invited Expression of Interest for setting up of Medicities, which will provide super-specialty medical care using sophisticated medical facilities," state health minister Jaynarayan Vyas told media-persons. The state government will sign MoUs with interested companies for Medicity projects during the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January, he said.

"Gujarat is already attracting a number of people from across the world for medical treatment. But, we feel that the state, with its existing medical facilities, lower treatment costs and the fact that 32% of all NRIs are Gujaratis, is best poised to emerge as a popular destination for medical tourism," he added.

Vyas said the state government is also looking at investments in IT services for healthcare and its respective related fields.
