Gujarat govt acquires 2.5 lakh sq feet land of closed mills

The land and properties belonging to the four closed textile mills of Ahmedabad namely Abhay Mills, Marsden Mills, Ahmedabad Cotton Mill-II and Manjushree Mills has been transferred to the state government.

The industries and mines department of the government of Gujarat has acquired around 2.5 lakh square feet of land belonging to four textile mills in the city. The Gujarat high court ordered the Official Liquidator (OL) to transfer the same and hand over properties belonging to and owned by the Gujarat
State Textile Corporation (GSTC) in respect to the four mills in Ahmedabad and one mill in Khambhat. 

The land and properties belonging to the four closed textile mills of Ahmedabad namely Abhay Mills, Marsden Mills, Ahmedabad Cotton Mill-II and Manjushree Mills has been transferred to the state government by the OL. The state government has got their hands on 1.06 sq mt land of Marsden Mills at Gomtipur and 1.04 lakh sq mt land of Manjushree Mills at Asarva. Apart from this, the government has obtained around 36000 sq mt land of Ahmedabad Cotton Mill-II, 15,614 sq mt land of Abhay Mills at Asarva and 22,554 sq mt land at Gorwa in Vadodara.

The industries and mines department also attained around 13,178 sq mt land belonging to Shuhblaxmi Mills at Khambhat. Besides, the court also asked the OL to hand over cash of around Rs50 crore to the state government.

The government claimed the land citing that almost all the dues of these mills were settled by the Gujarat State Textile Corporation (GSTC). The state government has given undertaking to the High Court under the condition that the land will be used only for public purpose, said MG Nagarkar, who appeared for the state government in the Gujarat high court.
