Now, your child can become the next Vikram Sarabhai or Albert Einstein. The government has launched a nationwide scholarship programme — Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) — for students excelling in science. Selected students will be given Rs5,000 each to develop models on any scientific theme and compete at a national level.
“INSPIRE aims to popularise the pursuit of science and attract talent at an early stage,” said HV Gadhri, education inspector, South Zone.
The programme is the brainchild of the ministry of Science and Technology. Under this, two students aged 10-15 (Std VI-X) will be identified from every school in the city.
“The programme does not believe in conducting competitive exams for identification of talent. It relies on the efficacy of the existing educational structure,” said Shubhda Vinekar, principal, IES Manik Vidyamandir, Bandra. “It seeks to revive student interest in science and help discover scientific talent,” said Fr Francis Swamy, principal, Holy Family School, Andheri.
