Unions and federations of the Gujarat state government employees of various departments have come together to press for their long-pending demands from the government. All the members will go on a mass casual leave (CL) on July 31 for the same.

The Gujarat State Employees Coordination Committee (GSECC), an apex body of all the unions and federations of state government employees, had organised a demonstration at Pathikashram in the state capital on Wednesday.

Representatives from the unions present at the rally alleged that the state government was working against its employees.

There are 15 different unions and federations with a total strength of around 9 lakh state government employees which come under the umbrella of GSECC.

Around 2,500 to 3,000 people from across the state were present in the rally. GSECC president Vishnu Patel made an announcement that all the employees will go on a mass CL on July 31.

GSECC general secretary Abdul Chauhan said, “We will go to all districts to meet state government employees and create awareness among them. Zone-level meetings will begin with south zone’s meeting at Bharuch on June 19. The Saurashtra zone meeting will be held at Rajkot on June 29 and the north zone rally has been scheduled for July 7 at Himmatnagar. Thereafter, a state-level coordination meeting has been planned for July 14 at Bhavnagar.”

He said, “There are a number of issues pending with the state government. More than two lakh government employees are working on fixed salaries in different departments.

We have demanded exemption from departmental examinations of CCC and CCC+ for promotions for employees over 50 years of age, medi-claim policy of Rs10 lakh and monthly payment of Rs1,000 instead of being given medical allowance, among others.

Payment of transport allowances, education allowance and other benefits like increase in the retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, according to the sixth pay commission recommendations should be given at the earliest.”

Chauhan added, “If the state government does not agree to our demands after July 31, we will organise a parallel flag-hoisting at Gandhinagar on Independence Day.”
