Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh was rushed to Lilavati hospital after he suffered from brain haemorrhage on Friday. He will be undergoing a surgery.
According to the hospital sources, his condition is critical and he will be under observation for 48 hours. “He was brought to the hospital around 9:30am and rushed to operation theatre, given his critical condition. Blood clots were removed in a three-hour long procedure,” said a senior doctor from the hospital.
His wife Chitra Singh was with him in hospital.
Brain haemorrhage refers to a condition where an artery bursts in the brain, causing a localized bleeding in the surrounding tissues.
The maestro was scheduled to perform Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi ghazals at a concert with fellow maestro from Pakistan Ghulam Ali at Shanmukhananda auditorium on Friday.
A representative of the Fever Entertainment which is organizing the ‘Fever unplugged concert’ told DNA, “Owing to the sudden hospitalization of Jagjit Singh, singer Hariharan is performing in his place.”
