General Electric and Westinghouse Electric, owned by Japan's Toshiba Corp, could spend a combined $10 billion to build two nuclear reactors in India, the Financial Express reported on Thursday.

Citing unidentified official sources, the newspaper said agreements with the two US-based firms were being firmed up ahead of president Barack Obama's scheduled visit to India in November.

Earlier this week, India's Parliament approved a bill to open up the country's $150 billion nuclear power market, sealing legislation crucial for the entry of US firms.

The government has also identified France's Areva and Russia's Rosatom for building nuclear reactors in the country, the paper said.
