A princess flew in from her home in France to lead a cleanliness drive at a slum in Lucknow to spread awareness about health and hygiene.

Princess Fay Ary, also known as Princess Jahan Ara, who was married to one of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah's great grandsons, was born in France and is now settled there.

The cleanliness drive, an initiative of the RACH Foundation, established by her in 2007, and the Royal Awadh Culture Heritage, also saw the participation of other members of the Nawab's royalty.

"I know that the government does many things, but it cannot do everything. We have to take responsibility of what is around us," said Princess Fay Ary.

The slum people were happy to receive soaps and clothes as gifts from the Princess.
"They have helped us a lot. They gave us clothes and soaps," said Seema, a slum dweller.

The Princess is also expected to participate in a similar cleanliness drive in Mumbai and Kolkata.
