Four Tamil Nadu fishermen were injured in an attack allegedly by Sri Lankan fishermen in the sea off Dhanushkodi coast today.

Police said the four were part of a 20-strong group who were searching for a boat which went missing on July 17. They traced the boat and were about to tow it to Rameswaram coast when they were attacked by the Lankan fishermen who allegely hurled 'petrol bombs'.

The boat in which the four were sailing also sank and they were rescued by other fishermen and brought to the Indian coast.

Fisheries department officials had lodged a complaint with Rameswaram police regarding the attack. This was the first time fishermen in Rameswaram were attacked by their Lankan counterparts, officials said.
