Senior CPI(M) leader Nilotpal Basu today said the creation of Telangana was no solution to regional imbalances and it could lead to demands for formation of linguistic states.

"No doubt these states brought development but the step had also led to a regional imbalances," Basu, Member Central Secretariat of the CPI(M) said here today. He said the Telangana issue created ripples in the country in a sense that now many states were asking for forming new smaller states.

Basu was here in connection with a joint rally organised by the CPI(M) and CPI in protest against price rise. Clarifying the party's stand on the demand of Gorkhaland, Basu categorically said the formation of this state was neither viable nor possible.

"Because the size of the land being demanded for this state is lesser even that of a normal district area," he said.

While addressing the rally the CPI(M) leader attributed the unprecedented price rise to UPA government's policy of allowing future trading in  essential commodities and food grains.

Joginder Dayal, member central executive of the CPI too blamed the Union government's policies for price rise and claimed there was no scarcity of food grains in the central pool and the Centre was not releasing sufficient quantity from its stock.
