A girl died and her parents and sister took seriously ill at Chaas in Bokaro district after they allegedly consumed poison in the face of economic hardship, police said on Wednesday.

"Devendra Singh, whose condition is serious, told executive magistrate Poonam Kachhap at a hospital that he and his wife had consumed poison last night following financial constraint," deputy superintendent of police R N Sharma told newspersons.

He further said two of his daughters also consumed poison after they watched them consume poison," Sharma said.

The neighbours got them admitted to a hospital in Chaas where 13-year-old Anuradha died, he said.
 
Condition of Singh (55) and his wife Chandra (45) were stated to be serious while Priya (12) was out of danger.

Singh's two other children, four-year-old Ayush and six-year-old Rimjhim, were safe as they were sleeping at that time.
 

Singh is working with an advertising company at Chaas and resides at Bhojpur colony.
