Dr Kiran Bedi, Kumudini Lakhia, Neerja Birla and Suzanne Roshan honoured.
FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), on Friday, presented woman of excellence awards to felicitate those women who strived to achieve excellence in their respective areas.
The awards were presented to four women- Dr Kiran Bedi, Kumudini Lakhia, Neerja Birla and Suzanne Roshan-by the chairperson of the Ahmedabad chapter of FLO, Sonal Ambani and Padma Shree winning actor, Anupam Kher.
“When you try to be popular, you become the crowd and when you do not, you stand out. This is why these women have achieved excellence in their areas,” said Kher, talking about the achievements of the four awardees.
While the first woman IPS officer Dr Kiran Bedi and renowned Kathak dancer Kumudini Lakhia were present in person to receive the award, educationist Neerja Birla and interior designer Suzanne Roshan accepted their awards through an audiovisual.
“I was always asked as to how dance can be a profession. While overseas, there are departments of dance doing research, in India people still do not take it seriously,” said Lakhia on receiving the award after having been associated with dance for over 60 years.
Meanwhile, Dr Bedi said, “I would term this as a reminder speech rather than an acceptance speech. I want the people of India to wake up to the anti-corruption bill which had been neglected for last 62 years. Anna Hazare, Dhoni and Obama are the three leaders which one should follow to learn leadership.”
The award function also saw the presence of other well-known personalities like Amit Ambalal and Anil Relia, accompanied by their wives, as well as Sanjukta Sinha, Esther David, Nabibaksh Mansoori, Radhika Raje and others.
The award ceremony was concluded by Sonal Ambani handing over the chair of Ahmedabad FLO chapter to Pooja Agarwal, the vice-chairperson.
