A youth, who went to meet his friends to wish them a Happy New Year, ended up dead after a teen, believed to be drunk and probably returning from New Year revellery, rammed her Alto car (GJ1 SJ 5060) into him on Sunday at around 4.45 am. The youth died on the spot.

The incident happened near Himalaya Mall close to Indraprasth Building where Gaurav Navnitbhai Rajguru, 24, had gone to meet his friends. The teen driver, who was allegedly drunk, was identified as Labdhi Chetan Shah (19) by Vastrapur police. The police sources, who wished to remain anonymous, said the teen was travelling from Thaltej towards Drive-in when she hit Rajguru. She hit three other vehicles, injuring two more people.

Vastrapur police, who registered a case in the matter, said that Shah is a resident of Pathik Society in Naranpura. Shah, a student of law in Nirma University, was allegedly returning from a party in Thaltej. Eye-witnesses to the incident said that after hitting the three vehicles, the girl who was excessively drunk started shouting for help. Bystanders broke the window of her mangled car to help her get out. The girl has since then gone missing.

Apart from killing one, the teen ended up injuring two others. Police said the girl first hit an autorickshaw injuring the driver, before hitting Rajguru. They added, Rajguru was coming out of Indraprasth building and was standing close to his bike when the car rammed into him. The car then went on to hit another car parked nearby. The third hit ended up injuring Bhanupratap Sinh, 21, a resident of Udaipur.

Police said that Rajguru is a resident of Bhavnagar and was in the city to welcome the New Year with his cousins. He was staying in Bopal city with his paternal uncle and was to go to Patan later to study a course in hotel management.
