DMK, which is supporting the Congress government here from outside, today said its legislators would boycott all government functions held in their constituencies as mark of protest against the administration 'delaying' implementation of welfare schemes in their areas.

DMK legislators were bearing the brunt of insult meted out to them by (government) ignoring their constituencies and keeping welfare schemes out of bounds for the poor and unemployed in constituencies represented by the party, DMK's Puducherry unit convener RV Janakiraman said.

Slamming the government for `snubbing' the DMK legislators by delaying implementation of welfare schemes, he said, in a statement, 'massive schemes' were, however, being implemented
at huge costs in constituencies held by AIADMK.

He said DMK legislator R Rajaraman was not invited to a function in his constituency yesterday for opening an MLA office building. ''The legislator was thus meted out an insult.''  DMK legislators would boycott all government functions hereafter organised in their constituencies in Puducherry and Karaikal regions, he said.

In the 33-member assembly, included nominated, the DMK's strength is seven, while Congress' 13 and Independents (3). On
the opposition side while AIADMK has three members, PMK has
two members and CPI and MDMK one each. Congress, PMK and CPI have one nominated member each.
