The Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC), the agency developing the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), has selected Vadnagar in Mehsana for setting up its second 1,000 MW power plant in the state.

The DMICDC, which had announced plans to set up two 1,000 MW gas-based power plants along the DMIC in Gujarat, had already approved Vaghel village in Patan's Sami taluka as the site for one of the plants. The agency has finalised Rajpur and Shahpur villages in Vadnagar taluka of Mehsana for the second power plant.

The two power projects, having installed power generation capacity of 1,000 MW each, will require an investment of around Rs8,000 crore.

DMICDC was also considering Vadodara district for setting up the second power plant, but has finalised Vadnagar for the project.
It may be worth mentioning that Vadnagar is the native place of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL), an undertaking of the state government, also said that Sami and Vadnagar had been selected as the sites for the two 1,000 MW power projects. In its annual report for the year 2009-10, GPCL said that the state government has identified around 132 hectare of government waste land at Vaghel village for the first project.
