The state CID has quoted a witness in the supplementary charge-sheet filed in the Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter case as saying that Tulsi and Sohrabuddin Sheikh had parted ways after Hamid Lala's murder in December 31, 2004. If this is true, it would mean that Tulsi never went to Hyderabad with Sohrabuddin as has been claimed by the CBI which is investigating the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. Sohrabuddin and Tulsi were both accused in the Hamid Lala murder case.

The witness, Jabir Mohammad, said in his statement before the CID that he met Tulsi in Udaipur jail where they were in the same barracks. He further said that during a conversation about Sohrabuddin's death on November 26, 2005 in a police encounter, Tulsi had told him that he had no knowledge of Sohrabuddin being caught by the Gujarat police as he had not gone to Hyderabad with the slain gangster.

Jabir said that after the murder of Hamid Lala (also a gangster) in Udaipur, Tulsi had parted ways with Sohrabuddin and was not aware of his whereabouts as he was not in touch with him.

Jabir told the state CID that the Gujarat police had picked up Sohrabuddin from Hyderabad where they had seized his cellphone which had Tulsi's phone number. After that, the police began to monitor Tulsi's phone calls and traced him to Bhilwara.

They then arrested Tulsi from Bhilwara.

Further, as per the statement given by Chandan Jha, Tulsi's landlord in Bhilwada, Tulsi had been staying in the house under a fake identity and the false name of Samir from 15 to 20 days before his arrest by the Udaipur police. The landlord told the CID that they used to see him every day and, during the 15-20 days he was there before his arrest, he had never gone anywhere.

The statement of Sudhir Joshi, a DySP in Rajasthan police, throws light on Tulsi's arrest. Joshi, who was posted as DySP in Udaipur at the time, told the CID that on November 29, 2005, he had received a tip-off that Tulsi was staying in Bhilwada under a different name. The DySP immediately sent a police team to arrest him. The team arrived in Bhilwada in the afternoon of November 29 and arrested Tulsi.

If the statements of these witnesses quoted by the state CID are telling the truth, Tulsi never went to Hyderabad. He was arrested from Bhilwara.

The statements of these witnesses, however, contradict the CBI's claim that Tulsi was picked up along with Sohrabuddin and Kauserbi by a team of Gujarat and Rajasthan police, and brought to Gujarat on the morning of November 23, 2005. The CBI has stated that the Rajasthan police then took Tulsi straight to Udaipur where he was allegedly illegally confined for five days. Thereafter, he was shown as having been arrested by a team of Udaipur's Hathipole police.
