Water woes for the city dwellers are not about to end as AMC missed the deadline to resume regular water supply from Sunday onwards. The citizens will have to go without water for some more days.

AMC missed the deadline as a result of which cut in water supply has been extended till June 14. Earlier AMC had promised to restore water supply from June 12 onwards.

According to chairman of the water supply committee Jatin Patel, work is still going on in the Meshwo River's escape canal. "I personally visited the site on Sunday. Some work is yet to be completed at the site and which is why the water cut in some areas," said Patel, who assured citizens of normal water supply from Tuesday. Patel said the work efficiency at the site will increase as AMC has employed its own labourers. They will help the workers, employed by the state government, with their work.
Earlier in-charge, city engineer Tarun Lad assured that the work is going on as per the schedule and water supply will be resumed.

"According to the reports, the work in the Narmada Canal will be finished within a few days. This will allow us to supply water to the people as per the scheduled date-June 12," said Tarun Lad on June 8. However, AMC has missed the deadline and angered the city dwellers as well as the corporators.

"We are fed up with the false promises made by the civic body time and again. It has failed to supply water through tankers as promised by the chairman of the water supply committee," said Iqbal Shaikh, corporator from Gomtipur ward.

AMC had imposed a 16-day-water-cut on city's water supply starting from May 28 and scheduled to end on June 12. The cut in water supply is due to repair work being carried out in canals supplying water to the city based reservoirs from Kadana dam and Meshwo River. The work is being handled by the state government.
