More than 150 kids from the state, suffering from polio and cerebral palsy, had a one-of-its-kind experience on Sunday, when a Sports Day was organised for them in Ahmedabad. An initiative of the Polio Foundation, the event comprised eight games for the children, for them to participate in according to their efficiency and capability. The foundation is situated in Jivraj Park in Ahmedabad.

Held at the organisation's own campus, the event witnessed participation from kids from around 22 institutes of Ahmedabad, and all over Gujarat.

Speaking on the occasion, managing trustee of Polio Foundation, Dr Mehul Shah, said, "This special Sports Day has been organised for these kids to make them more confident of their abilities. Besides, there is little acceptance of such kids in our society. Our initiative was also aimed at creating acceptance for them."

Joint commissioner of the city for sector 2, Atul Karwal, was the chief guest for the function. The audience cheered as the winners proudly took away their prizes. Revealing the future plans of the foundation, Shah said, "After this event, we will soon conduct a national-level sports competition."
