Curfew remained in force today in Kupwara and Pulwama towns even as restrictions were lifted from most parts of the Kashmir Valley.

Restrictions on the movement of people were imposed in Palhallan town of Baramulla district after residents defied curfew and indulged in large scale violence yesterday leaving 15 people, including seven securitymen, injured, the police said.

Meanwhile, life continued to remain disrupted in the Valley with shops and business markets remaining closed and transport off the roads due to the week-long shutdown called by the hardline Hurriyat led by jailed leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

The unrest in the Valley started on June 11 when a teenaged boy was killed allegedly in the teargas shelling by the police. In the subsequent protests, 16 more persons, including a girl, were killed allegedly by security force since then.
