Condemning the act of BJP to boycott Chidambaram for his involvement in 2G scam, Sitaram Yechury said his party was not in favour of an individual boycott.
Condemning the act of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to boycott union home minister for his alleged involvement in the 2G scam, Communist Party of India (Marxist) lawmaker Sitaram Yechury Tuesday said his party was not in favour of an individual boycott, and added that the charges levelled against P Chidambaram should be probed.
"We are clear that we do not target anyone individually. This is a question of corruption, and in this case, be it Chidambaram or any other minister, he should be probed on the issue. However, we do not support this kind of an individual boycott," he said.
Meanwhile, Congress lawmaker Rajiv Shukla also condemned the BJP's stance to boycott Chidambaram.
"I think that the democratic traditions and proceedings should not be challenged by out casting an individual and not allowing him to speak in the House," he said.
The crucial Winter Session of the Parliament commenced today on a stormy note with a determined opposition cornering the government on the price rise, black money and the 2G Spectrum allocation scam. Both Houses of Parliament were subsequently adjourned for the day.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had earlier described the Winter Session of Parliament as very crucial, and hoped its proceedings would be peaceful, smooth and result-oriented.
"I sincerely hope that this session of Parliament will move smoothly. The government is committed to discuss all issues. All political parties would recognize we have important legislation for this country," said Singh.
"I hope the political parties will resist boycott. I appeal to all the parties to work together for the country," he added.
