Court sends I-T official to 4-year imprisonment for cheating

The court of additional chief judicial magistrate special court (CBI) KR Upadhaya on Tuesday sentenced Sushil Kumar Mahajan, an income tax inspector in Vadodara, to four years of imprisonment and fined him Rs10,000 for procuring railway tickets by giving a fake address.

Assistant public prosecutor SC Meena said, "Mahajan has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including section 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471."

According to case details, Mahajan had procured four AC two-tier railway tickets of Golden Temple Express from Anand railway station on August 2, 1999. For the same, he had given his address as CBI office, Ashram road, Ahmedabad.

In a joint operation, the CBI along with the railway police nabbed Mahajan from Vadodara railway station. The CBI had earlier filed a complaint against the accused on August 3,1999. The CBI officials had also conducted raid at his residence and recovered EFT (Exchange Fare Ticket).

A sources said that Mahajan who had earlier worked as a TT had all the knowledge about the nitty-gitty of railway. In 1996, he joined income tax as an inspector and was posted at Vadodara.
