Cops to monitor debt collectors

The police had to undertake a futile exercise when a resident of Saraaspur called up the control room and complained that he was robbed of his bike by members of a gang on Friday evening.

As it turned out, the gang members were actually seizure agents of a finance company, and had taken away the bike because the complainant did not pay his installments.

The Kalupur police detained three youths for giving false information to the police. Yagnesh Desai, the person who called the control room, had purchased a bike on installments from a bank on CG Road. "He had not paid the installments for some months and the seizure agents took away his bike from Saraspur," a police source said.

The commissioner of police had passed a circular to check such seizure agents working in private banks and finance companies which lays down the guidelines to be followed by them.
