Congressmen from Vidarbha region today paid rich tributes to veteran Congress leader from city and former Union Minister Vasant Sathe, who passed away in Gurgaon last night.

A rally of Congress workers, which was to be organised in Nagpur today by local MP and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Vilas Muttemwar, in view of the forthcoming civic polls, turned into a condolence meet.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Manikrao Thakre, Nagpur district gaurdian Minister Shivajirao Moghe, Minister for EGS Nitin Raut, Minister of State for Power Rajendra Mulak, former MPCC chief Ranjeet Deshmukh, former Minister Satish Chaturvedi, Gev Awari, Prabhawati Ojha, Nagpur-South MLA Dinanath Padole and former MLA Ashok Dhawad spoke on the occasion.

Two minutes of silence was observed for the departed soul.

Sathe had made his debut in the Lok Sabha from Akola in 1972 and later represented Wardha constituency from 1980 to 1991. He was one of the politicians, who strongly demanded a separate state of Vidarbha.
