The Arunachal Pradesh unit of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Friday made it clear that the ruling Congress has to perform in the greater interest of the state if it wishes to get the unconditional support of the party.

"If they (Congress) fail to do so, the AITC would be forced to withdraw its support and work as an opposition in the state though the party is an ally of the UPA government at the Centre with the largest number of MPs," AITC state president Toko Sheetal said.

She said that the state unit as well as party chief Mamata Banerjee would take up with the state and central leaders, particularly Congress president Sonia Gandhi, for expediting the process of development of the underdeveloped landlocked state in a transparent manner.

Taking strong exception to the recent infighting in the Congress, Sheetal had expressed regret on Gandhi’s silence while development had come to a standstill in the Congress-ruled state and urged all elected representatives to maintain peace and try to meet the public demands for development.

However, thanking Gandhi for nominating Nabam Tuki to take the reins of the state, the AITC congratulated Tuki and hoped that he would restore normalcy and lead the state towards development.

AITC has five legislators in the 60-member Arunachal Assembly.
