Commission probing deaths in Kashmir Valley holds first meeting

The state government appointed commission of inquiry decided to establish its sub-offices at Anantnag and Baramulla, while it shall be functioning for the most part from its headquarters in Srinagar.

The state government appointed commission of inquiry, looking into 17 death cases lodged in the Valley from June 11 to July 19, met for the first time since its formation about a month ago and decided to set up its sub-offices at Anantnag and Baramulla.

The decision was taken by the commission headed by justice (retd) Syed Bashir-ud-Din at its first meeting held here on August 28 and 29, an official spokesperson said here today.

"The matters and issues concerning the inquiry to be held in 17 referred death cases from 11th June to 19th July (seven each of Srinagar and Baramulla and three of Anantnag) came under focus and were deliberated upon from the stand-point of holding fair, transparent and meaningful enquiry," he said.

The commission decided to establish its sub-offices at Anantnag and Baramulla, while it shall be functioning for the most part from its headquarters in Srinagar, he said.
