College student commits suicide in Delhi

A 20-year-old student allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a canal in Delhi today.

The incident took place in Bawana in outer Delhi at around 11.15am, police said.

Gayatri, a first year student of Aditi College, stayed with her parents at Daryapuri area in Bawana, they said.

The family said Gayatri had left home for college as usual this morning and they did not have any idea that she would take the extreme step.

Some locals who witnessed the incident informed police. She was rushed to Maharshi Valmiki Hospital, where she died during treatment.

Police is yet to ascertain why she committed suicide, as she did not leave any suicide note.
