A state-of-the-art trauma centre was inaugurated at city-based Care Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) on Sunday. The centre is the first and only one in western India to have protocol-based management of trauma. City mayor Asit Vora along with director of the trauma centre at Civil Hospital, Dr Sharad Vyas and state principal secretary, health and family welfare department, Rajesh Kishore inaugurated the centre. This trauma centre has been set up in collaboration by Palash Patel Foundation and CIMS.

Speaking at the inauguration, Vora said, "There is need for ultra-modern and well-equipped facilities to save lives. It is satisfying to see that CIMS has set up such high-tech infrastructure supported by qualified surgeons to meet emergencies." The newly-inaugurated trauma centre will be headed by the first trauma surgeon from the state, Dr Sanjay Shah.

Kishore said, "Gujarat was the first to start a course in emergency medical care. Looking at the increasing requirement of critical care and trauma treatment, we have proposed adding eight to 10 seats for trauma and critical care at medical colleges."

Complimenting the hospital for the centre, Kishore said, "Great initiatives are born out of great vision and dreams and CIMS has created a benchmark for others to replicate."
