A local court today rejected the application of Rajasthan forest department seeking directions to the army to hand over five armymen, accused in the killing of Chinkaras, for questioning.

The forest department had moved an application in the Barmer Munsif Court after its repeated requests for questioning of the five armymen was not met by the army.

Deputy Conservator of Forest, Barmer, BR Bhadu said the department will decide the legal course of action after further consultations.

Five army personnel of a tank repair unit were booked after heads of three Chinkaras were recovered from a military camp in Neembla village at Barmer last month.

The army had also ordered a court of Inquiry into the matter and asked the forest officials to depose before the CoI for investigation. The forest officials, however, failed to appear before it, the army had said.
