CBI seeks derecognition of Lucknow college

Sources said CBI has found that the institute was given approval to conduct courses in management and technology by AICTE despite it not having the required infrastructure.

CBI is learnt to have asked All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to withdraw recognition to Lucknow College of Technology and Management (LCTM) for alleged irregularities in functioning.

Sources said CBI has found that the institute was given approval to conduct courses in management and technology by AICTE despite it not having the required infrastructure. LCTM is run by Royal Shiksha Sansthan.

In a report sent to the human resource development ministry (MHRD), CBI has asked the government to withdraw the approval given to Royal.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that CBI plans to prosecute then regional officer of AICTE in Kanpur who granted the approval and others involved.

MHRD has forwarded the sanction request to the respective institutions for consideration.

As per section 19(1) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, CBI has to obtain sanction of the government or respective organisations for launching prosecution against officers above the rank of joint secretary.
