Bhanot and Verma were arrested by the CBI on February 23 for alleged irregularities in awarding Rs107 crore contract to the Swiss firm in procuring the Timing, Scoring and Result system for the Commonwealth Games.
A Delhi court today extended by 14 days the judicial custody of two former top officials of C'Wealth Games organising committee, arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in awarding Rs107-crore contract to a Swiss firm for providing logistic support for the sporting event.
Special CBI judge Talwant Singh extended the judicial custody of the organising committee's former secretary-general Lalit Bhanot and its ex-director general VK Verma till May 5.
"Both the accused are remanded to judicial custody till May 5," the court said after the CBI submitted that the probe in the case was still going on.
Bhanot and Verma were arrested by the CBI on February 23 for alleged irregularities in awarding Rs107-crore contract to the Swiss firm in procuring the Timing, Scoring and Result (TSR) system for the Commonwealth Games.
Meanwhile, another court extended the judicial custody of organising committee official K Udai Kumar Reddy and a director of a priate company Praveen Bakshi, who were arrested in a corruption case related to the C'Wealth Games, till April 23 after the CBI said that it will take time to file a charge sheet against them.
The agency submitted before Special Judge Sanjeev Jain that they are preparing the charge sheet.
The court extended the judicial custody of the duo by only two days as the mandatory 60 days period for filing the chargesheet would expire on April 23.
The court also put up the bail application of Reddy and Bakshi for hearing on the same day.
C'Wealth Games organising committee additional director General Reddy and Bakshi were arrested on February 22 and the CBI ad said that they gave and accepted bribe and Reddy misused his official position.
The CBI had earlier told the court that Bakshi had paid a huge bribe to the organising committee officials in return for getting contracts with exorbitant rates.
The CBI had also said Reddy had accepted the bribe amount from Bakshi, the director of a firm known as 'ESJAV:D Art: Indo-Consortium.'
Nearly Rs600 crore worth of contracts relating to the overlays projects are under CBI scanner.
Overlays works included supply of tents, marquees, prefabricated units, portable toilets, containers, security fences, furniture, public display LED boards, floor finishes, material handling equipment, gensets, cabling, UPS, air-conditioners, lighting, civil construction, athletic exercise equipment and grandstands.
The special judge also extended the judicial custody of Comfort Net Traders India Pvt Ltd's director Sandeep Wadhwa, arrested by the CBI on March 7 for bribing C'Wealth Games organising committee officials to bag lucrative contracts for providing logistics to the mega sporting event, till May 3.
The CBI allaged that Wadhwa had paid huge amounts of bribe to various OC officials on behalf of Nussli (Switzerland) Limited.
