West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said the Left Front government would accelerate the pace of industrial development if it is voted to power for the eighth consecutive term.

"We initiated some efforts of industrialisation, achieved success in some but were resisted at Singur, in particular, by opposition parties who resorted to violent means," he said at a poll rally here.

Attacking the Trinamool Congress for "undoing" the industrial initiatives in the name of mass movement, the chief minister said, "This (opposition) party is bent upon creating lawlessness and spreading violence which is a matter of serious concern."

Bhattacharjee said that his government had learnt from the past experience that they have to go ahead with our industrial projects and not succumb to any political pressure.

Ridiculing the Trinamool's slogan for change, he said, "It is not clear if it means strengthening hands of Maoists in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia or help in the division of Darjeeling by encouraging violence."

He referred to the charge that Trinamool Congress had been spending huge amount of money in election campaigns and questioned the source of funds.

"This party (Trinamool) depends on huge sums of money and uses helicopter to campaign, but it should know that people of the state will not be purchased for voting," the chief minister said.
