With Rakshabandhan round the corner, visually impaired women at the Blind People's Association (BPA) are gearing up to create multi-hued rakhis, albeit in much larger numbers than last year.

It is a marvel to watch the women make the rakhis, complete with colourful beads, glittering 'sparkle' and multi-coloured strings. The whole process is carried out so perfectly, that it is difficult to say that the hands at work are those of visually impaired people.

Speaking about the preparations, Kanchan Patel, who is visually impaired herself and runs the Blind Women's Association at BPA, said, "As compared to last year when we made only 250 rakhis, we're planning to make a good 3,000 this year. We hope we get a good response from the people."

The rakhis are available for sale at the BPA's counter, and will be sold at subsidized rates, added Patel.
