BJP protests against China for grabbing land along border in Kashmir

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists held demonstrations here against China in the wake of recent reports that it had grabbed "substantial" area along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Over 200 activists of the party, led by its Jammu unit chief Rajesh Gupta, took out a procession from state BJP headquarters at Kachi Chawni to Parade Chowk.

However, when the police did not allow them to proceed towards Parade Chowk and burn an effigy of the UPA government, a scuffle took place in which two BJP activists were injured.

Former Jammu & Kashmir BJP chief and MLA Ashok Khajuria said, "It is a matter of serious concern that China has occupied a substantial chunk of land in Ladakh region of J&K."

The leader also accused the Centre of adopting "non-serious attitude" towards these developments, and alleged that the government's approach towards China was "soft".

An official report recently said that the area along LAC with China has "shrunk" over a period of time and India has lost "substantial" amount of land in the last two decades.

However, the army insists that no part of Indian land has been lost to China, and the "established" Line of Actual Control is unchanged.
